Spinal Pain

Whether spinal pain is acute or long term it can be very disabling.

Acute spinal pain is frightening when it first occurs. Sharp, shooting pain around the neck and head immediately makes people think the worst.

The best starting point in treatment is to take the time to explain to the patient what is happening, what the cause is and the range of treatments needed after ensuring that all the facts are known.

This Clinic has a direct internet connection to the largest radiology firm in the region. We take time to show the images to the clients and ensure they understand what we are saying to them in relation to their condition.

Treatment: is provided in consultation with the patient’s GP or Specialist.

Tony has over 40 years experience of treating spinal pain. The Clinic is equipped with the latest technology including Shock Wave Therapy, Laser, Interferential, Ultrasound and Intermittent Traction. Tony has a post graduate Certificate in Spinal Care to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Sports Injuries

Sports people need to be fixed yesterday! They are highly motivated and normally recover quickly with appropriate treatment.

This includes the use of electro-medical equipment, specific exercises, stretches and massage.

In his long professional career Tony has had the pleasure of looking after many top AFL players, International cricketers and state based sports representatives. He had a long term professional relationship with a World and Olympic Cycling Champion and a world Class Ballet Company.

He has been the Physiotherapist at National Rowing Championships, World Championships of Rowing, and for many years was the Physiotherapist for a very successful AFL team in the Tasmanian State League.

Tony has a strong belief in the benefits of incorporating massage into treatment and takes a fair dinkum “hands-on approach” to recovery.

Patients are incorporated into the recovery process by ensuring they have a detailed knowledge of their injury and a plan for their recovery.

Chronic Tendon and Ligament concerns

The impressive Shock Wave Therapy apparatus is providing amazing results in the treatment of:

Plantar fasciitis, Heel spurs,  Achilles Tendinitis, Tennis elbow, Tendinopathies and other related concerns.

Treatments are short and highly effective, usually requiring four or less treatments.

This does not replace the long-term protocols of Interferential, laser, ultrasound, stretches, exercises and massage but as an added rehabilitation tool has created quite a sensation with the rapid speed of recovery for most people.

Work Related Injuries and Road Traffic Trauma

Tony is certified to treat Workers Compensation Injuries under NSW Workcover.  He is also accepted to treat Road Injuries. All treatments under Workcover and Motor Accident Insurance are bulk-billed. The staff will make all appropriate contacts with the Insurers and Legal representatives and will always work to ensure that your recovery is as speedy as possible. Working with your insurer and legal team is essential to make recovery from serious injury as pain-free as possible, both physically and psychologically.

If you are unfortunate enough to be injured on the road or at work, the staff at Northern Rivers Physiotherapy will be on your side all the way. If it proves necessary the professional staff will be available as witnesses in and mediation or court appearances to ensure that you are treated fairly.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a proven modality for pain relief and is very effective with many forms of chronic pain. It is a safe and painless protocol. All acupuncture needles are single use and sterile packed to avoid infection.

Acupuncture is used as an adjunct to treatment. It is seldom used as a treatment in its own right but as part of a holistic treatment protocol, that usually includes electromedical modalities, massage, mobilisations, stretches and exercises.

 EPC and Veterans Affairs

Applicable patients under these programs must be referred by the GP. These services are always bulk-billed.

Experience counts: In 1974 Tony had 4 DVA patients who served at Gallipoli! He treated many veterans of the Second World War, including many POW’s held in Germany and Japan. During his training years the hospitals were full of young men injured in Vietnam and many ended up in his Private Practices.

With the long running conflicts in the Middle East there are now many veterans from Afghanistan, Iraq, and the rest of the conflict zones.

Our Veterans deserve nothing less than the best treatment available. They gave their all to make Australia safe; they are now entitled to the very best care possible.

Wound Healing

Laser provides an effective tool to increase the speed and efficacy of wound healing, especially with ulcers and pressure sores.

This is totally painless and the recovery is tracked by regular photography of the wound area.

Scarring can be visibly reduced with laser treatment. Depending on the type of scarring, ultrasound may also be useful.

Rehabilitation and Strengthening

Using the Clinic’s Rehabilitation Gymnasium and home based exercises patients are provided with guided recovery from severe injury or following surgery.

Rehab and exercise programs can be tailor made for each individual patient with options for short term loan items and long term rentals to help with recovery.

Specialised products in store can be purchased to assist in the rehabilitation of patients where needed.

Stock and products include: Fisiocrem, Back Braces, TENS machines, Moon Boots, exercise stretch bands, exercise putty, sports tape and much more.
